The play tells the story of how the inhabitants of some village called Devyatibedovka gave up their spiritual freedom and talents for material well-being. Once upon a time there was a village. It wasn’t rich but very happy with its songs. One day foreign merchants come to the village and bring a super bull Clemens which can improve the breeding of cows. All the villagers chip in together to buy the bull. With time the village becomes rich but there is one problem – Clemens does not like songs. The whole place gets quiet and miserable until there appears a musician who plays the saw and rebels against the current situation...
